International students coming to UK are permitted to stay for at-least one year at the institute owned property. There are around 30% of international students living in accommodation owned by the college of different education institutes. Students coming to UK for higher studies should prefer the accommodation provided by their college or university. It is the most apt choice for them and more than half of the international students have chosen this option on degree courses in the UK. You would find various alternatives available for living in the UK universities, such as you could go for the rooms in most of the universities which you can rent. However, for accepting a room at a university’s residence, you need to sign a binding agreement which states that you need to remain in the hall for the full academic year. You can also consider a private accommodation either with a British family or with your fellow mates. All UK universities have an accommodation office, which takes care of accommodation issues of international students.

Hall of residence

The most common choice for the higher education students for accommodation is in the halls of residence usually owned by the institution and located on campus or a short distance away. The student lives in a study-bedroom either by himself or with another student. However, in some cases you may require to share a bathroom, though many institutions provide en-suite rooms, especially students for higher studies. Hall of residence is the cheapest option available for students. As far as meal facility is concerned in halls, some of them provide two meals a day and others provide shared kitchens. Shared kitchen is a cheaper option; you may prefer to have meals cooked for you by paying some extra bucks. Most of these halls have laundry facilities and cleaning facilities. Cost of utilities like electricity and water are included in the rental cost.

University and college houses

There are some institutions in the UK which have bought certain flats that have been adapted for small groups of students, couples or families. In some cases private landlords in UK also allow their houses to be managed and let by universities.

Privately owned accommodation

Another exciting option of accommodation you can find is privately owned accommodation. It gives you more flexibility and freedom as compared to accommodation by university or institute but the standard of quality may differ from the university owned flats.
