To apply for a student visa, the two very crucial things that a student must show are- he/she has been accepted by (university's name) for a course study and secondly he/she is able to pay for the course and capable of supporting an accommodation for him/her and any dependents with no help from public funds. You should submit your visa application form at the nearest British High Commission or Embassy in your home country. The British High Commission or Embassy usually makes decision for visa application within 2 working days so it is advisable to apply earlier. If there is an interview scheduled then application process takes little longer this is why it is recommended to apply for visa at-least 1 month before your course begins. You may be issued a visa without an interview if you would have relevant documentary evidence with a complete application form.
However, the ultimate decision is in the hands of an Entry Clearance Officer at the British high Commission or Embassy. Though usually students do not require going through with an interview in following cases
If you do not require any interview for visa, your passport would be returned to you with in the two working days or they might ask you to come and collect on your own. On the other hand, if you are called for the interview you get an appointment on the next working day.
What happens if your visa is refused?
If due to any circumstance your visa is refused by the British Embassy and you have already paid a deposit to the college then you need to send a copy of visa refusal to the college and you would get the refund of the deposit. Some institutes may deduct a nominal amount of £100 for processing the refund payment.
